ABOUT THE ARTIST

Eija Vehviläinen

Eija Vehviläinen

I live and love here in Helsinki, Finland. I’m an illustrator and a visual designer. I create work that focuses on interesting shapes, bold and quirky colour combinations and playful compositions. You can visit my Instagram account at @eijavehvilainen. I moved from a small Savonian town to Helsinki over 10 years ago to study arts and graduated as a Bachelor of Arts from Aalto University in 2016. My roots are in graphic design but I’ve been working as an illustrator for a few years now.

As a designer I’m inspired and driven by sustainable thinking and conscious living – I’d like my work to be seen timeless yet still recognisable. I enjoy working with companies and customers who share these same values. I’m mixed-handed, my favourite candies are sour and my guilty pleasure is watching all kinds of murder mysteries on tv (Hercule Poirot is my favourite). In my spare time I enjoy spending time outdoors. I love the four seasons we have in Finland and find calmness and peace in the woods, by the lake or a seaside. I don’t have a favourite color because I think each colour has its own potential and place depending on the context.
