ABOUT THE ARTIST

Joseph Cox

I’m based in Kingston upon Hull in the UK. It’s hidden gem of a city of the UK that gets a bad rep but its full of great creatives and packed with independent spirit and history. I specialise mostly in illustration and graphic design, but that takes me in all sorts of directions. Whether it’s working on festival graphics, record sleeves, murals, museum materials or simply my own art and illustrations of the area that I sell through the shop I share with my partner, Form Shop & Studio.

The work for my illustration and design is up on Josephcox.com or through the shop on Form Shop & Studio. I love bold colour pallets and get inspired by technology, music, industry, science, architecture, infrastructure and museum collections. I studied graphic design at Northumbria University in Newcastle but always leant more towards illustration and art. So coming out of uni I worked at an agency but started producing my own work to sell until I went freelance and set up the Form Shop & Studio with my partner allowing us to also support great local and regional makers.

Beyond illustration I also make music – rarely putting anything out these days but enjoy making electronic synthesiser soundtracks. Occasionally music does cross over with my day job in animation work but typically it’s just enjoying just playing.
